Series: Ar tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica
Character: Luca Trulyworth
Timeline: The mid-beginning of Phase 1, just before the party arrives at Luca's home in Mint Block.
Personality: Luca is the typical Girl Next Door. She's your average down-to-earth small town girl, very cheerful, perky and outgoing, and always ready to offer you a hand. She tends to be fairly accommodating, at times practically bending over backwards just to please someone, but is by no means a doormat. If she has a problem with you, she will tell you about it. Luca is also able to read others very well, due to her job as a Dive Therapist. She is also very good at singing, and her dream is to someday become a famous singer.
Being a Reyvateil, Luca works strongly off of harmonics with others. Reyvateils can create Song Magic, and in order to sing a truly effective Song, they have to be in harmony with someone. Generally, Reyvateils are paired up with one other person, but they can also work off of harmonics between themselves and a group of people. Because of this, Luca gets along with practically anyone, or at least tries her hardest to do so. Unfortunately, she seems to spaz a little. If she is being nice to someone, and that person begins looking down on her, she will lose her nerve somewhat and can sometimes stutter around what she tries to say.
Luca does not get along with her mother, Reisha, very well, though this is almost fully on her part. Her mother tends to be very over-protective, wanting to know where she is going and what she is doing at all times. She was also very disapproving of her daughter becoming a Dive Therapist at first, not to mention the long train ride to Rakshek every day. In actuality, all Reisha wants is for her daughter to be happy, but it's hard for her to let go and let Luca do her own thing, especially after losing her husband and their other daughter, Reika.
Croix, the main character of the game, grew up living with Luca and her mother. Luca holds strong feelings for Croix, and thinks of him as being very much more than a childhood friend. It's something she is constantly teased about, as she talks highly about Croix to her friends. If someone accuses him of being her boyfriend or fiance, she will get extremely embarrassed and claim that it's nothing like that, or that she's out of his league. Luca is way too nervous to actually express her feelings, though, so she seems more content to just sit back and help Croix.
Background: As far back as Luca can remember, she had been living with her parents, Batz and Reisha Trulyworth, and her younger sister Reika. It seemed to be a very close family, and she and her sister received much love from their parents.
When Luca was about five or six, Reika became infected with a high level of IPD, a virus that infects Reyvateils and causes them to go berserk, killing and destroying anything in their path. The Grand Bell army came to contain the IPD infection and take Reika away for study, and her father confronted the soldiers, telling Reisha to take Luca and run as far away as she could. Luca, of course, wanted to help save her little sister, but there wasn't very much that she could do at such a young age. Her mother took her and, as promised, ran as far away as possible. Batz was never heard from again, and Reisha and Luca settled down in the frontier Rim town of Mint Block. Luca never once forgot about her sister, and vowed to find her again someday.
A very short time afterwards, Reisha adopted a young boy named Croix Bartel. His parents had been killed, and he had been left an orphan. He became very close friends with Luca, and as the years went by, Luca's feelings for him progressed into much more than just friendship. At the same time, as Luca grew older, the fights with her mother began. They were over trivial things at first, but the longer they progressed, the more intense they would get.
At age 14, Croix left the household to join the Grand Bell army. Luca was certainly not very happy to see him go, but kept her feelings inside. The fights with her mother seemed to spike after Croix left, and Luca decided she needed to get away from her mother. She found a job as a Dive Therapist in Rakshek, about a 30 minute train ride away, and immediately took the job. Dive Therapy uses the same method that one would use to Dive into a Reyvateil's subconscious and create new Song Magic, except the user Dives into the Reyvateil's subconscious and allows the Reyvateil to soothe their mind and help them relax. Luca quickly became one of the best, though her mother extremely disapproved of her daughter's occupation, and was one of the most popular Dive Therapists in Rakshek.
While Croix was away working for the Grand Bell, he and Luca kept close contact with one another, sending letters back and forth. Croix eventually moved up in rank a bit, and he bought his own home in Pastalia, where he lived with a girl named Cocona, who he had adopted as a little sister. Desperately wanting to get away from her mother's constant nagging, she asked him if she could come live with them in Pastalia, and he approved.
The day before Luca was to move to Pastalia, she had gone to Rakshek to take care of her customers for the day. Just as she was leaving work, she stumbled upon Croix, who was with two other girls. Wondering what he was doing in Rakshek, she went to greet him, and found out that he was escorting the Holy Maiden, Lady Cloche, to safety, as she had been attacked while at the resort nearby. Croix asked if they could safely house Lady Cloche at Luca's house, and Luca agreed, thinking it an honor to have the Holy Maiden in her home. Lady Cloche began to ask Luca about herself, and seemed to look down on her when she revealed she was a Dive Therapist, saying that it was a job of ill repute. Luca argued that some Dive Therapists do allow perverted things to happen, but that she wasn't one of those types, and Lady Cloche ignored her, continuing to accuse Luca of being a deviant. Luca became very flustered, but still agreed to house Lady Cloche.
The group began to head for the station in order to take a train to Mint Block, but the Sacred Army, the Grand Bell's opposition and the army that had led the attack on Lady Cloche, was crawling everywhere. They had no choice but to walk. Luca claimed that she had done it before when she ran out of money for the train, but it was about a four hour walk from Rakshek to Mint Block. Nevertheless, they made the journey, despite Lady Cloche's constant complaining of needing to rest. Luca is taken to Adstringendum shortly after arriving at the town, but before they actually make it to her house.
Sample Journal Post: Oh, my...what is this place? This isn't Mint Block!
I wonder what happened. Where are Croix and Cocona, and Lady Cloche? They were here just a second ago! And this place looks completely destroyed. I wonder if this is the result of an IPD outbreak...
[A somewhat sheepish laugh is heard.]
...actually, I wonder what city this is. It doesn't look like anywhere I've ever been, or anywhere I've even heard of! If there had been such a big IPD outbreak, we would have heard about it...right?
[It's silent for a moment. Luca seems to be deep in thought. A small gasp is heard, and some scuffling as well, as the PCD is apparently picked up.]
Hey, this thing looks like one of those weird communication devices like Croix has! Hello? Can anyone hear me~?
Sample RP: Luca clutched her arms around herself, the PCD trembling as she shivered. This most certainly wasn't anywhere near Mint Block. When they had left, it had been warm. Here, it was freezing, and her clothes did nothing to help keep the cold at bay. If she didn't find something warmer soon, she was afraid that she might freeze to death. Far be it beyond her means to use Song Magic to warm herself, but she didn't even know a Red Song that wasn't ice. She rubbed her hands as best as she could on her bare shoulders and bit her lip. If only there were some kind of shelter...
"Ah! There!" Her attention had been grabbed by a tattered but sturdy-looking building. The walls were in an immense state of disrepair, but maybe she could find some blankets there at the very least. Nodding in confirmation to herself, Luca headed towards the small building, hoping she wasn't in for any nasty surprises. After all, in a run down place like this, you never could tell.
